New Chapter President
Posted almost 5 years ago by Michelle Turmell
Hello Chapter members and the greater nursing community,
I hope all of you are doing well! These times have made it challenging to meet and move forward with positive change for the Nursing profession. But, move forward we must. I am very happy to announce your new Greater Detroit Chapter President, Lisa Shelton!! Please help me in welcoming and supporting her in this new role.
Lisa graduated with honors, Phi Theta Kappa, from Wayne State University 23 years ago. She is CCRN certified since 2006. Lisa is an AACN Ambassador and utilizes Healthy Work Environments to support her professionally and personally. She is genuinely interested in supporting her colleagues in nursing education. Her interests are structured around "safety for all", as she is a Safety Champion at work. Lisa served in the Marine Corps as a cook under President Ronald Reagan. Soon after that, she became a mom and then a Nurse. She now has 11 grandchildren, enjoys Zumba and bicycling. Every day she tries to follow the teaching from Mother Teresa of "do small things with love."
I am very excited for this next step for our Chapter and can't wait to see what Lisa has in store for us all! I hope you will all consider getting involved in the chapter, however that may look these days. Stay tuned for meeting dates and times.
It has been my pleasure being your chapter president these last 2 years. It has been fun and very educational. I am so very excited for Lisa Shelton to take the reins, as I know her very well and have all the confidence in her ability to be our President! Congratulations Lisa!!
Sincerely,
Michelle Turmell, past President
Lisa Shelton, President, Greater Detroit Chapter AACN

Thank you Michelle! I hope I am able to follow your lead. I am hoping to get more nurses certified and get more continuing education for those who are certified. I'm looking forward to hosting monthly meetings virtually. Also, NTI virtually will be awesome! We are all in this together! Nurses will be able to accomplish so much more with less physical meetings. Our demands have become more dynamic. I encourage all nurses to follow AACN Heathly Work Environments model and will post frequently for engagement. Thank you, Michelle for establishing AACN Greater Detroit. Your legacy will flouish with great love.
Lisa
